A Year with the Woodlandmills Multilander| A Trailer for Homesteading
Just about a year ago, I purchased a Woodlandmills Multilander offroad utility trailer. I thought it was about time I show it in a video. I have found countless uses for this trailer. It is truly a multi-use trailer that has countless roles around the cabin and woods.

The Beginning of a Dovetail Log Cabin Homestead

Cheap, Strong and Simple | Sawhorse Build for the New Cabin

As I get organized for the new part of my wilderness journey, I wanted to get two rugged sawhorses set up. I will use these for holding logs while I cut the dovetail notches. I had seen this design built other places, and wanted to try it. I was very impressed with how easy they were to make, and how solid they feel. Thanks for watching! Rescuing Windblown Logs for Lumber | From Storm to Sawmill
Переглядів 4,6 тис.5 місяців тому
Time to scavenge some logs! We had a huge windstorm recently that left countless trees blown over or uprooted. I have spent some time in the woods with my Loglander Skidding Arch collecting logs. Today, my neighbour and friend, Billy, helps me collect a few logs form a Spruce tree that blew over. I've been impressed with the simplicity and ease of use of the Loglander. The entire process, inclu...
Does an "Upside-down Fire" actually work? Watch and find out.
Переглядів 3,1 тис.6 місяців тому
Upside-down fire - have you ever heard of these? I had not, but recently did and thought I would give it a try. First, it worked! Second, the benefits: It required almost no work, just light it and leave it. Second it burnt longer for the same amount of wood used. Third, the drawbacks: it took longer and did not get as hot. Summary: It works, and might be best suited for a situation where you w...

I find if you wrap the rope around the log twice, it helps center the log from twisting. That is a good trailer for most small farms or homesteads.

@@PenniacWilderness Just a thought about your dovetail jig process, if all your logs are the same size why don't you add some blocks inside the jig to set the depth it goes on over the log as well as some blocks to center it on the logs. That would speed up the process 👍

Great video and great job with explanation ! Had a couple questions but figured them out. Measure for inside but cut from outside. What you’re cutting is always in front of the saw not beside the bar. But. Think both could be swapped depending on preference and where the guides were mounted on the bar. Was happy to see you went to Nepal on IG and looks like another great time for you ! As always I enjoy watching and seeing whatever you’re doing ! You must’ve filmed that video last week. That black fly hatching was hellacious for 3 days here lol. Take care Jonathan

@ 24:01 you haven't mentioned that the 1/4 plywood pads have to be calibrated top and bottom of the chain bar to stop the cut at the proper distance from the jig

Put a 2X4 flat on top of each log to help make it more air tight you can put a bead of caulk on the 2X4 .... There will be a place to put mortar , just take two inch tape a run it along the top and bottom of the 2inch opening them fill it with mortar , let your flat trowel ran on top of the tape ... When it hardens remove the tape.. It will look great..oh might be a good ideal To put a few drywall screws in to help hold the mortar in because that house will move ... From heat and cold ...

I am looking to build a small dovetail cabin this fall. Just curious about the doors and window install. Do you allow for the logs to settle and shrink when installing them, and how do you do that if you do?
